Hug Cellars was established in 1994 by Augie and Raquel Hug, following a successful run as proprietors of the Central Coast Wine Room in Harmony, California.
They created their first vintage, made under the thoughtful guidance of their dear friend John Alban (Alban Vineyards), which yielded 87 cases of Edna Valley-designated Syrah. At the time, they continued to run their retail shop, and were making wine on a part-time basis, thanks to the generosity of John and Lorraine Alban, who allowed them to make their wines at Alban Vineyards.
In the year 2000, they decided to make a full-time commitment to Hug Cellars and to their future as proprietors of a small, family-owned winery. Since that time, they devoted themselves and their resources entirely to this soulful endeavor. Augie and Raquel never looked back, even though punch-downs at 3:00 AM got a little tiresome. They love to make wine, surrounded by the scent of the fruit and the earth, and would like to share their family's passion and art with you. Discover for yourselves the flavors they learned to coax from the fruit of the vines.
Edgar Torres joined the team in 2005 as their Assistant Winemaker. He shared their same love and passion for winemaking; Augie and Raquel took him in as their own. In 2015, Augie and Raquel decided to move on from the wine industry. It seemed fitting for Edgar to take over and continue to share their vision.
Hug Cellars is dedicated to producing wine with uncompromising quality.
