What is SEO? Search engine optimization or SEO is a set of rules that are followed by CA Coast Info (or any website/blog) owners to optimize their content for search engines and thus improve their search engine rankings – giving your listing a chance to show up in Google, Bing or other search giants organic search results. Additionally, SEO will give your listing an increase its quality by making it user friendly and of particular note, social media marketing enhanced. SEO can also be considered a framework since the whole process has a number of rules (or guidelines), a number of stages and a set of controls.

Search engine optimization of your CA Coast Info directory listing will not only provide this specific listing benefits, but those benefits can also extend to your linked business website.

SEO is also good for the social promotion of your listing and linked web site. People who find your listing and web site by searching Google or Yahoo are more likely to promote it on Facebook, Twitter, Google+ or other social media channels.

Properly optimized content will specify to the social media services the specific text and image to be automatically pulled in when your visitors choose to share your listing or other web content.

SEO can put you ahead of the competition. If two web sites are selling the same thing, the search engine optimized web site is more likely to have more customers and make more sales.

When you perform a search on Google (or any other search engine) the order by which the returning results are displayed, is based on complex algorithms. These algorithms take a number of factors into account to decide which web site (or blog) should be shown in the first place, second place etc.

Optimizing your web site for search engines will give you an advantage over non-optimized sites and you increase your chances to rank higher.

SEO can be broken down into 2 main stages; On-Page and Off-Page Optimizations. On-Page SEO are optimization tweaks we do to your listing (and web site content if we are hosting it) to increase your search engine visibility while also increasing the usability and credibility of your listing (web site or blog if hosted by us).

Off-site SEO techniques, generally known as link building; aka site promotion – the proper way to promote a listing – involves much more work than simply building links. Generally, search engines are trying to find the most important pages of the web and show those first when a user enters a search query. One of the factors to determine the position a web page will appear in the results is the number of quality incoming links.

Incoming links are a signal of trust and depending from where the links are coming, they can greatly affect your ranking position (either positively if the links are coming from well-known and trusted sites or negatively if they are paid links, article directories, link farms etc.). The latter is why we concentrate more on creating good quality content for your listing or hosted web site. Good content will get you natural links which in turn will give you good rankings and traffic.

The objective is not to ‘make your links appear natural’; the objective is that your links are natural.

What are citations?

Business “citations” are a fairly new way for local businesses to get their information out to the public and to do so in a big way. Citations can take a variety of forms ranging from online local directory listings to being mentioned on many local chamber type websites. These small “mentions” or “web references” may or may not link back to your website, however in either case, they are very useful in helping local businesses rise up in search engine rankings as well as promoting businesses to the public.

Why are citations important to local SEO?

Online citations are extremely important to local business listings because they are an essential component that the major search engines use in their ranking algorithms. In other words, businesses that have a greater number of citations are often ranked higher than those businesses that have fewer online citations. Businesses that occupy less-competitive market niches, such as electrical or plumbing, even if they do not have a website, can benefit from citations. The search engine will use the business information contained in the citation to rank the business, and therefore be able to present the business to those searching for like services. Citations are also important in helping businesses validate who they are to the local community. Learn more about why business citations are important to local SEO.
